Caramel N-D is an electronegative Caramel produced by the treatment of food grade carbohydrates with heat in the presence of food grade catalysts. Caramel N-D is a dark brown liquid. When diluted it should be clear with an odour and taste typical of burnt sugar. It is used to colour a wide variety of foods notably sauces and beverages.

  • Function / Dosage: Caramel NDS-D is a dark brown liquid. When diluted it should be clear with an odour and taste typical of burnt sugar. It is used to colour a wide variety of foods notably sauces and beverages, recommended dosage in beverages is 0.05- 0.1% (w/v) and sauces 0.25-1.5% (w/v). Colour intensity 360-450 (0.4% at 610nm).

  • Ingredients: Caramel N-D is made from hydrolysed maize starch. Caramel N-D contains sulphur dioxide at levels up to 800 mg/kg and is free from other known allergens. Recommended labelling is Caramel (IV) or Colour E150d however please check local food labelling requirements to ensure compliance.

  • Packaging: 5kg and 25 kg tamper evident polyethylene containers.
  • Shelf Life: Store in a clean, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at ambient temperature, away from odorous materials. Storage at temperatures greater than 35°C may lead to a decreased shelf-life. For stock control purposes, a shelf-life of 18 months is specified. Colour and viscosity increase on prolonged storage.
  • Regulations: It conforms to the JECFA (joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives) specifications for Food Additives. Caramel N-D is awarded Halal Accreditation by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils Inc. Caramel N-D is awarded Kosher and Pareve certification by the NSW Kashrut Authority Inc.Caramel N-D does not require labelling as a genetically modified food in accordance with Food Standard 1.5.2 - Foods produced using gene technology (FSANZ).
